Philosophy

S.H College of nursing, which is an educational institution under S.H General Hospital, affirms that degree programmed in nursing is a formal educational principle with the practice of nursing is built and further professional education depends.

We accept the fact of having a responsibility to the student and to the society to make provision in the programme for the continued development of the student as an ideal citizen as well as a nurse.

We believe that the basic degree programme in nursing equip educated young ‘people’ with basic knowledge, skill, attitude with good aptitude to render professional nursing care to people of all ages in a variety of settings. A graduate of this programme will be competent to hold leadership positions, recognize civic responsibilities striving towards uplift of the profession and co-operate with other disciplines to improve health care system and ultimately the welfare of the Nation.

We recognize that the nature of nursing is such that a substantial portion of the student learning occurs in the clinical area and also influenced by advances in science and technology.

The faculty of nursing assumes the responsibility for developing a curriculum that guides, encourages, stimulates and challenges the learner. Careful planning of learning experience is based on consideration of students’ goals and needs. In fulfilling these responsibilities the faculty works with designated member of the health team and allied services within the hospital and the community to use the available resources most effectively.

We initiate motivating, enthusiastic and talented students for their ongoing development extent nursing competence and to set higher goals in nursing, implement and evaluate care which ultimately reflects the consistently improving levels of health of the Society and the Nation.

  • Appreciate the necessity of belonging to professional organization and strive outwards to uplift the profession.
  • Uphold the respect of human life, right from womb to tomb. The ultimate aim is to mould sensitive judicious professionals responding to the situation with the use of head, heart and hand of individual and the community at large.

The hospital has 3 rural community health centre and one urban community health centre to get vast academic implication of evidence support practice in community health programme.


Eligibility for Admission in Basic B. Sc Nursing - 4 years

Pass in +2/HSC/VHC or its equivalent qualifying examination with minimum of 55% on each aggregate marks for English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subject .The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on or before 30th June of the year of admission (As per University Norms). All other norms of the admission are as per the policies of Nursing Councils, Government and Kerala University of Health Science.

No. of seats – 40 Admission only for eligible female candidate.


Application Procedure

  1. To obtain application form and prospectus for B.Sc Nursing Course/ Post Basic B.Sc Nursing shall apply to the admission officer, S.H College of Nursing, Greengardens, Cherthala, together with the payment of Rs.500/- remitted at office counter / in the form of demand draft Rs.525/- in favor of lieu.
  2. The duly filled application form should reach the admission officer on or before two weeks after the acceptance of the form.
  3. The application form is to be completed in block letters by the applicant in her own handwriting.
  4. Full name of candidate as seen in school records should be given in the application form and other related forms and correspondence.
  5. Application fee ones paid WILL NOT BE REFUNDED.
  6. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OEC should send a community certificate issued by the concerned.
  7. The candidates should possess good health and character.
  8. Copies of all certificates enclosed should be attested by the Gazette Officer once submitted, will not be returned.
  9. If the certificates are in a language other then English they have to be translated into English and attested by the Principal of the School / College
  10. The candidate is expected to ascertain her eligibility.
